The Kills’ newest album, Midnight Boom, loses the 2-people-in-a-basement feel of 2005’s No Wow, and instead moves the entire operation to a fancier home without losing any of the simplicity and smarts that got it there in the first place. There’s lots of bass and a much swankier drummer/robot, but the lyrics and the percussive but super-sparse (think Spoon) guitar are better than ever.

Xavier Rudd is an extremely popular Aussie multi Instrumentalist and songwriter, not to mention surfer. Xavier debuted in 2004 with Solace in the USA, after becoming a star in his native Australia. Since then his conscious, heartfelt songs and concerts have made him a huge fan favorite. During his shows, he performs the songs’ guitar, didgeridoo and various percussion parts at the same time using a setup that that surrounds him with various instruments and singing from behind a stand holding three didgeridoos.
Xavier Rudd’s latest CD, coming out in August, is called Darker Shades of Blue and is supposed be darker and more psychedelic than earlier releases.

C + C Music of Norway decided a nice surprise for Prince would be a tribute album of 50 songs from 50 artists in honor of the purple one’s 50th Birthday. Well, after Prince’s legal team was sent the CD all hell broke loose. Now the legal team wants all copies of the album destroyed. Seems that C + C was supposed to pay Mr. Formerly a Symbol about $8 per CD sold. They didn’t.
